Planning to buy a new television? The vast array of buzzwords in the spec sheet leaving you confused 4K, refresh rate, HDR can’t fathom how important/unimportant they are while making the purchase. TV’s too have evolved in the past few years from LED to smart and then to curve. Buying a TV isn’t as simple as buying a smartphone, hence this is a short guide which will help you through your way.
The most important factor to keep in mind while buying a television is its size. You should first picture the placement of your television, and not buy a very huge screen just because you can afford it. Size of a television is very important because in case you’re planning on buying a 55-inch tv and sitting too close to it then its clarity is lost. Also, you shouldn’t buy a tv of fewer than 32 inches doing so can have a harmful effect on your eyes.
The second most important thing is the brand of the television that you’re planning on purchasing. The first question you should ask yourself is do you trust the brand? The sales rep in a store will try to sell any brand that favors the store, but don't fall into the trap. We live in a digital age, and reviews of brands can easily be found online. In case you’re deciding to make the purchase from reputed brands like Samsung, Sony, LG, etc then you’ve saved yourself a lot of time
Next thing to be kept in mind is the connectivity options available. In case you’re planning to use our tv for other purposes apart from connecting it to the set-top box then make sure that it has connecting ports like HDMI, USB ports, 3.5mm audio jacks and other AV ports. Bluetooth can be an additional advantage.
Sound is another important factor. If you're shopping online, you can only trust customer reviews. But if you prefer walking into a store, you might want to consider some clarity on the sound. Usually, the stores have multiple models plugged in side-by-side and all playing the same clip simultaneously on a loop. So the sound might feel convincing. What you can do instead is request the sales rep to mute the other TVs around the one you're planning to purchase and be the judge. Walk back the distance where you think the TV will be placed in your home and get a better understanding of the sound.
Native applications should also be checked because some tv has a ton of inbuilt applications while some have none.
Last but not least, the price of the television. Smart televisions do not come cheap. So it's very important to see if you exactly need a smart tv or not. Also, in case you’re interested then you can also go for cheaper options like Xiaomi and Kodak.
